Professional snowboarder survives avalanche with ABS uninjured
"We were at the Outdoor Games in Le Flegere"/ Chamonix with a local guide & ski guide in the backcountry, when we discovered a great location for filming. I already had a bit of a bad feeling at the sight, but the snow situation was considered good and I drove into the slope - and at the same moment it broke away. However, it wasn't until the second turn that I noticed that the slope had started to slide and I tried to avoid it. So I pulled the handle of my airbag relatively late. My snowboard was pushed down by the snow and I thought, now I will be rolled over by the avalanche. But in the next moment I felt the lift through the airbag, came back to the surface and finally lay down above the snow masses.
I am a professional sportsman and know all about alpine dangers off the secured slopes. But also all this experience and knowledge cannot protect you from an avalanche. That is why you have to be well equipped. Besides the avalanche transceiver, the probe and the shovel, I always have my ABS® with me to have the best chances of survival in an extreme emergency".
