"My friend Christian E. and I were on our way to the Kreuzjoch in Zell/Ziller on Sunday 10.2.2013 with bright sunshine and an avalanche warning level 3. When we had reached the summit, we decided to march the ridge further towards Gerlos. After about 200m I wanted to find a channel for the downhill run, a 3m x 5m cornice broke away below me and I crashed vertically into the approx. 45° steep slope below.
Luckily I was able to pull my ABS® backpack immediately and I swam 150m down the slope on the cornice and the triggered avalanche and was lying on top when I stopped, or was barely buried."
